After picking up one point from their two perilous away trips to Barcelona and Leverkusen in the last two matchdays, the young Parisians returned to the Campus PSG on Tuesday for a clash with Bayern Munich on matchday four of the UEFA Youth League. Having impressed against Atalanta in their only home game so far in this European campaign (4-1), Les Titis were looking forward to once again draw on the support of their fans, who turned out in force, to get a result against the Bavarians, who are just one point behind the capital club.
James, Boly, Kamara, Lucea, Cordier, Diyinu Nzinga, Abo El Nay, Chtai Telamio (Idder, 81'), Ayari (Nsoki, 64'), Jangeal, Ly (Luvambano, 74')
In a Campus PSG packed with Ultras, the Espoirs played a superb first half, converting their first chance early on thanks to some superb work from Adam Ayari to play in Mathis Jangeal who beat his man and then slotted past the Bavarian keeper (1-0, 4'). With their German counterparts failing to respond, the Rouge et Bleu continued to press forward, with Jangeal leading the charge.
The latest addition to the long list of Titis who have signed professional contracts with Paris Saint-Germain is a credit to the capital club's academy, which celebrates its 50th anniversary today. After seeing his attempt shave the Bavarian post (39'), our Titi forced Leon Klanac into two saves just before half-time (44', 45'), narrowly missing out on a brace.
After the break, the boundless ambition of our Rouge et Bleu remained unchanged. Jangeal was once again involved in all the best moves, hitting the Bavarian post (47') and then setting up Adam Ayari perfectly on the counter-attack, but he was unable to find the target. It was ultimately a solo effort from Elijah Ly that provided the second breakthrough. On the left wing, the Parisian forward took advantage of the lack of marking to cut inside and unleash a splendid strike from outside the box that caught the Munich goalkeeper off guard (2-0, 50').
The margin could have been widened even further twenty minutes before the end of the match thanks to a penalty won by Noah Nsoki, but Jangeal was denied by Leon Klanac (68'). The Bavarian goalkeeper showed a serious improvement in the second half and even managed to save a second Parisian penalty in the dying moments of the match (89'). Not helped by his defence, the German U19 international finally conceded a third penalty, this time converted by Younes Idder in added time (3-0, 90'+6). Solid in defence and inspired in attack, the Espoirs secured their second win in this league phase of the UEFA Youth League and did the academy proud on this symbolic day for the academy.
The Parisians will return to competitive action on 14th November with an away trip to Nantes for the second matchday of the Challenge Espoirs competition. In the Youth League, Jean-François Vulliez's side will take on Tottenham at the Campus PSG on 26th November at 2.30pm in what promises to be an exciting clash.
